Less Stuff, More Peace: A Simple Home Reset

A realistic home reset — without buying more storage bins.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how our homes are supposed to be our sanctuaries, yet at times they end up feeling like storage units with a mortgage.

At Soul-Full Acres, I am trying to live differently. Not perfectly. Not with some dramatic minimalist makeover that looks beautiful on Instagram but falls apart in real life. Just… gentler. Slower. More honest.

I want our home to feel like a deep exhale at the end of the day. A place where our nervous systems can soften instead of tighten the moment we walk through the door.

So I created this simple, room-by-room guide from my own messy, beautiful process of letting go. It’s not about having the perfect home. It’s about having a home that feels like yours again — one that supports rest, connection, and the kind of everyday peace that actually matters.

Here’s what I’m focusing on these days:

Bedroom: Focus: rest & calm

•  Clothes not worn in a year — gone.

•  Bedside tables stay mostly clear (this one has been life-changing for my sleep).

•  Extra pillows and blankets donated — we don’t need a mountain of them anymore.

•  One small basket for “not mine” items that somehow migrate in here.

There’s something sacred about a bedroom that feels like a soft space place rather than a dumping ground.

Wardrobe: Focus: getting dressed faster

•  If it doesn’t fit now, it’s time to let it go.

•  I keep a maximum of 2–3 of the same item (no more 7 black t-shirts I never wear).

•  Matching hangers make such a quiet difference.

•  Those “one day” outfits? They’re usually just guilt hanging in my closet. I’m letting them go.

Bathroom: Focus: easy mornings

•  Empty bottles and sample sizes — out.

•  Sink gets cleared every night — it’s a tiny ritual that makes mornings feel lighter.

•  Only the products we actually use weekly get to stay.

Kitchen: Focus: daily flow

•  I’ve limited our mugs and glasses — somehow we still have enough.

•  One junk drawer only. (Yes, we’re allowed one.)

•  Counters and sink get cleared every night. Waking up to a clean kitchen feels like a quiet blessing.

Living Room: Focus: cosy, not cluttered

•  Rule of 3 decor items on surfaces.

•  One tray for all the remotes.

•  Nothing lives on the floor.

Laundry: Focus: control

•  Single socks? I finally trow them away. Life’s too short.

•  One laundry basket per person.

•  No more clean-clothes piles living on the hallway floor for days.

•  Only detergents we actually use.

Home Office: Focus: mental clarity

•  File bins cleared out every 3-months.

•  Desk cleared daily.

•  Limited stationery (I used to hoard pretty notebooks like they were going extinct).

•  One drawer dedicated to cables and chargers.

Car: Focus: calm journeys

•  Receipts and trash get cleaned out regularly.

•  One organizer only.

•  Trunk & backseat emptied every week.

•  No loose items rolling around.

Remember this, my beautiful friend:

Your home doesn’t need more storage bins.

It needs fewer things.

Small resets still count.

A cleared bedside table. A kitchen counter you can actually cook on. A closet that doesn’t make you feel bad about yourself.

These aren’t just “decluttering tips.” They’re quiet acts of self-respect. They’re ways of making space — not just in our drawers and cupboards, but in our minds and hearts too.

At Soul-Full Acres, I am learning that peace isn’t something we chase. It’s something we create by gently removing what no longer belongs.

What about you?

Is there one small area in your home that’s been weighing on you lately? Maybe just one drawer, one surface, or one corner that could use a loving reset?

I’d love to hear where you’re starting.  We’re all in this together, figuring out how to live lighter, softer, and more soulfully.

With warmth from the acres,

Stacey ❤️
