From my Heart

Coming Home to Myself: One Gentle Breath When My Body Feels Heavy

Finding your way back to yourself, one quiet moment at a time.

Some mornings I wake up and my body already feels like it’s carrying too much. The hypothyroidism slows me down and leaves me so tired, even after a full night’s sleep. My immune system has taken its hits over the years, and then there are the midlife changes… the restless nights, brain fog, and that quiet anxiety that can creep in and make everything feel harder.

I used to push right through it. I’d get up, make the coffee, make breakfast, pack lunches, and try to keep the day moving. But pushing only left me more tense and disconnected from myself.

Lately, I’ve been learning a much kinder way. It’s just one simple breath with my hand on my heart. Nothing fancy. No special setup. But this little practice has become my quiet anchor in this season of life. It helps me feel settled and calm again, even when my hormones are shifting and my energy is unpredictable.

Here’s how I do it, as simply as I can.

I sit on the edge of the bed before my feet even touch the floor, or I stand at the kitchen sink…wherever I am. I place my right hand gently over my heart, right in the center of my chest. Sometimes I add my left hand on top when I need a little more comfort, like giving myself a hug. Then I breathe in slowly through my nose for a count of four, feeling my chest rise softly under my palm. I breathe out through my mouth for a count of six, letting my shoulders drop and my jaw soften. Just three or four times. That’s all.

No one around me even notices. But inside, something feels lighter. The racing thoughts slow. The tension eases. I feel a little calmer, a little more settled. It’s like whispering to my body, I’m here. You’re safe right now. I’ve got you.

Living with hypothyroidism and menopausal symptoms hasn’t been easy. There are days when my body feels like it’s working against me instead of with me. The fatigue, the hot flashes, the way my mood can swing…it’s been so overwhelming. But this hand-on-heart breath gives me a moment to pause and reconnect. It doesn’t magically fix everything, but it helps me stay grounded instead of spiraling into worry or frustration. It lets me move through my day with a little more grace, a little less tension, and a lot more kindness toward myself.

If you’re walking through your own health challenges—hormones that feel out of balance, deep fatigue, immune struggles, or just the weight of everyday life…I want you to know you’re not alone in this. You don’t need a perfect morning or extra hours in the day to start feeling a bit more at home in your body. Sometimes the smallest, gentlest thing makes the biggest difference.

Try it with me today? Just place your hand on your heart and take a few slow breaths. That’s enough. Your body already knows how to settle…it just needs that tender invitation.

I’d love to hear from you. Share when you tried it or how it felt. We’re all finding our way back home, one gentle breath at a time.

With warmth and a quiet exhale,

Stacey ♥️
